TOS2 (Terminal Operations Simulation System) is a suite of software tools that mirrors the entire spectrum of terminal operations in a simulation system to answer various 'what-if' questions. It is used to assist its users in port design, terminal upgrading and expansion, as well as day-to-day operations planning. The suite consists of the following major modules:

  • Vessel Arrival Module to generate realistic arrivals of vessels carrying the right mix of cargo to the terminal.
  • Berth Module to handle the berth allocation for calling vessels.
  • Quay Crane Module to plan quay crane resources for discharging and loading cargo from/to vessels.
  • Yard Space Module to assign and manage the storage yard space.
  • Yard Crane Module to schedule the yard cranes for storage and retrieval of cargo.
  • Terminal Transport Module to handle the terminal?s internal conveyance of cargo between quay and yard.
  • Hinterland Transport Module to handle the local import and export cargo between the hinterland and the yard storagev.

    • TOS2 provides a realistic integrated view of port operations amid the interactions between different components of port operations. TOS2 offers a reconfigurable and scalable system architecture that is able to accommodate the complexity of port operations and the heterogeneous modes of synchronization. TOS2 works on different levels of detail serving multiple purposes, which uniquely qualifies it as a suitable tool for both long term planning and day-to-day operations planning.
